KARACHI: Prof. Dr. Hina Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist and Professor of organic and medicinal chemistry at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), United Kingdom, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the advancement of chemical sciences.
Prof. Siddiqui has obtained her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Karachi under the supervision of world-renowned scientist Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, following which she progressed through research and academic positions at the ICCBS. She also undertook advanced research training at the University of Kansas, USA, and postdoctoral training at the University of Tübingen, Germany.
She has over 70 research publications in international journals, a granted US patent, several local patents, a book, and several book chapters to her credit. Her research interests include design and development of new anti-infectious agents, including anti-bacterial, anti-protozoal, anti-viral compounds, inhibitors of clinically important enzymes, etc., through expanding the chemical space with new small molecular libraries. She has supervised more than 35 students for their M. Phil. and Ph.D. studies in the field of medicinal chemistry, including foreign students from African and Asian countries, and thus has played an important role in mentoring young scientists, developing research capacity, and promoting international scientific collaboration.
Prof. Dr. Siddiqui is the recipient of several national and international competitive research grants. She has delivered more than 70 lectures, including plenary and invited lectures in different national and international workshops, symposia, and conferences. Prof. Siddiqui is also serving as an Adjunct Professor at different national and international universities. She is also serving as an OIC-COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar, contributing to scientific knowledge exchange and capacity building among researchers in OIC member states.
Her recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) is a significant international recognition of her sustained contributions to chemistry and further highlights her standing as a leading researcher and academic in <a href="https://middleeastdaily.net/wmo-pakistan-chapter-swears-in-new-leadership-for-2026-2029/”>Pakistan.
