MUSCAT: SalamAir, Oman’s Low-Cost carrier, has officially launched its new direct service between Muscat and Kigali, Rwanda, further expanding its network across Africa and reinforcing its commitment to enhancing connectivity between Oman and high-growth international markets.

The launch was marked with an inaugural ceremony today at Muscat International Airport, attended by senior representatives from SalamAir, Oman Airports, CAA, the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in the Sultanate of Oman, aviation partners, travel trade representatives and members of the media. Ticket sales commenced on 30th April 2026, and the first flight to Kigali will depart on 21 July, carrying an official delegation from Oman to commemorate the launch and celebrate the inauguration of SalamAir’s newest destination.

Kigali is one of East Africa’s fastest-growing destinations, recognised for its vibrant tourism sector, growing business environment and strategic position as a gateway to the region. The new direct service strengthens connectivity between Oman and Rwanda while creating new opportunities for tourism, trade, investment and cultural exchange between the two countries.

From his end, H.E. CG Dan Munyuza, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the Sultanate of Oman, said: “The launch of direct flights between Kigali and Muscat marks an important milestone in strengthening connectivity between Rwanda and the Sultanate of Oman. This new route will support the growing movement of travellers, businesses, and goods between our two countries, while creating further opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment. We welcome this development and look forward to seeing it contribute to stronger bilateral ties and closer engagement between our people.”

Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir, said: “The launch of Kigali marks another important milestone in SalamAir’s growth journey as we continue expanding our network into high-potential markets that support tourism, business and stronger international connectivity. Rwanda is a dynamic destination with significant opportunities, and we are proud to establish this direct link that will further strengthen the relationship between our two countries while supporting Oman’s tourism ambitions and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.”

“At SalamAir, we remain focused on offering affordable travel while continuously expanding our network to destinations our customers value. Kigali is an important addition to our growing African network, and we look forward to welcoming travellers onboard while contributing to greater connectivity across the region.”

Nasser Al-Sharji, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, commented on the launch: “We are delighted to see SalamAir continue expanding its international network with the launch of direct flights to Kigali. At Oman Airports, our role is to create an environment that enables our airline partners to grow, while strengthening Muscat International Airport’s position as a gateway connecting Oman with the <a href="https://middleeastdaily.net/spain-defeats-argentina-to-claim-second-fifa-world-cup-title/”>world. Every new destination enhances connectivity, supports tourism and trade, and creates new opportunities that contribute to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. We look forward to supporting SalamAir’s continued expansion and welcoming more travelers through Muscat International Airport.”

H.E. Hamood Bin Khalfan Al Busaidi, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Rwanda to the Sultanate of Oman, commented on the launch: “The launch of SalamAir’s direct flights between Muscat and Kigali represents a landmark achievement in the growing relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Rwanda. Beyond enhancing air connectivity, this strategic route opens new avenues for trade, tourism, investment, and institutional collaboration, while bringing our two nations and people closer together. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and creating new opportunities for sustainable economic growth and mutual prosperity.”

The new route will operate twice weekly, offering passengers a convenient and affordable travel option between Muscat and Kigali while providing seamless access to SalamAir’s growing network across the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.

As SalamAir continues to expand its fleet and destination network, the airline remains committed to making air travel more accessible and affordable, strengthening international connectivity, supporting Oman’s tourism sector, and contributing to the Sultanate’s economic diversification in line with Oman Vision 204
