The Permission Slip You Did Not Know You Needed: Why Solo Women Are Choosing Thailand First

More than 1.2 million women travelled to Thailand alone in 2024. The ones who went know exactly why. The ones who have not yet gone are running out of reasons to wait

Solo travel for women is no longer a niche pursuit. It is, by almost every measure, a mainstream movement. Women now drive 82 per cent of all travel decisions, according to a 2025 Agoda survey, and the fastest-growing segment is women choosing to travel entirely for themselves. Thailand ranked eighth globally for solo female travel safety in 2025 and consistently features among the top three destinations women actually book when they decide to go.

Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Koh Samui offer a combination few destinations can match: world-class infrastructure alongside a street-level warmth that makes navigation feel instinctive. Thailand’s dedicated Tourist Police unit operates around the clock across all major destinations, and the Grab app has resolved the perennial concern around safe, transparent transport that solo women cite as a deciding factor.

What women travelling alone in Thailand tend to describe, unprompted, is something less quantifiable: a sense of ease, of being genuinely welcomed rather than assessed. Thailand’s culture of hospitality creates an environment where solo women report feeling neither conspicuous nor vulnerable. In post-trip surveys, 98 per cent of solo female visitors rated their experience positively. More than 1.2 million women travelled independently to Thailand in 2024.

“Travellers from the UAE and GCC are among the most discerning in the world, and Thailand is ready to meet that standard. Whether you are seeking genuine wellness transformation, a family adventure, or the freedom of solo travel, the Kingdom offers an experience that is both deeply personal and world-class.”-Ahmad Mad Adam, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Dubai and Middle East Office

For women from the UAE and GCC, halal dining is accessible across every major destination. Premium properties offer private beach and pool access as standard. Direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah place Thailand within five to six hours. Thailand does not market itself specifically to solo women. It simply keeps getting recommended by the ones who have already been.
