Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi Marks the 81st Independence Day with Blood Donation Drive in Collaboration with Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF)

    By Rafiq Vayani

KARACHI The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, in collaboration with the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF), organized its annual blood donation drive on Saturday at the AMTF Center in Karachi, as part of the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

The humanitarian initiative brought together Indonesian diplomats, Consulate staff, Indonesian students, and members of the Indonesian community in Karachi, who voluntarily donated blood to support children undergoing treatment for thalassemia.

Beyond commemorating Indonesia’s Independence Day, the initiative reflects the spirit of solidarity, compassion, and mutual care that lies at the heart of the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan. It also demonstrates the Indonesian community’s continued commitment to contributing positively to the welfare of the local community in Karachi.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi, Mr. Mudzakir, expressed his sincere appreciation to AMTF for its dedicated efforts in providing treatment and care for children living with thalassemia.

He highlighted that the annual blood donation drive has grown into a meaningful tradition of cooperation between the Consulate General, the Indonesian community, and AMTF. Over the years, the initiative has served not only as a humanitarian contribution, but also as a tangible expression of solidarity and the strong people-to-people bonds between Indonesia and Pakistan.

“As Indonesia commemorates its 81st Independence Day, we believe that the spirit of independence should also inspire us to share, to care, and to contribute to the communities around us. Through this blood donation drive, we hope to extend the spirit of solidarity and friendship from the people of Indonesia to the people of Pakistan,” said Consul General Mudzakir.”

Mr. Asim Qidwai, Founder and CEO of the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation, expressed his appreciation to the Consulate General and the Indonesian community for their continued support and annual participation in the initiative.

He underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation in ensuring a reliable blood supply for children with thalassemia, many of whom require regular transfusions as an essential part of their treatment. He also welcomed the continued partnership with the Indonesian Consulate General in raising public awareness of voluntary blood donation.

The activity concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to sustaining the humanitarian partnership and encouraging greater public awareness and participation in voluntary blood donation.

Through initiatives such as this, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi continues to promote people-to-people connectivity and humanitarian cooperation as important pillars of the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan.
